Chinese mobile phone manufacturer China Wireless Technologies is considering plans to establish a mobile phone plant in India by 2012, according to reports by Business Standard and CelluarNews. It is reported that the project will be carried out through the company's local subsidiary Coolpad Communications, which currently offers CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and dual-mode mobile phones in India via Reliance Webstore. Prior to the mobile phone plant, Coolpad will open R&D centers in Delhi and Mumbai by 2011. The overall investment is estimated at 300 crore Rupees (US$66.2 million; US$1=45.3 Rupees) to 400 crore Rupees (US$88.3 million). At the same time, Coolpad also expects to expand its work force in India from 200 at present to 300 by year-end 2010 and to 1,000 by year-end 2012.
